My completed classes

Info, thoughts, and other fun stuff about classes I'm done with. Yay.

15-213 Introduction to Computer Systems

January 17, 2006 - May 8, 2006
Lecture: TH 9:00 - 10:20
Recitation: M 10:30 - 11:20
Frank Pfenning / Yongjun Jeon
Professor is decent, but I've learned that I cannot stand systems-level programming. The class itself is well-structured, and the assignments themselves are interesting enough. Overall good course.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

15-312 Fundamentals of Programming Languages

January 17, 2006 - May 9, 2006t
Lecture: TH 10:30 - 11:50
Recitation: W 12:30 - 1:20
Robert Harper / Jake Donham / Dan Licata
Type theory, proofs, merging code with logic. Amazing, and amazingly fun, but also amazingly hard. The BEST TAs ever, seriously. Also the best CS class I've taken at CMU, by far. Amazing professor; take it with Bob Harper if at all possbile.
Target grade: B
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

21-301 Combinatorics

January 16, 2006 - May 9, 2006
MWF 11:30 - 12:20
Thomas Bohman
The professor is a little out of it, but he's smart, and knows the stuff. Class is okay, but gets harder as it goes. Not a big fan of it, but meh.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

62141 Black & White Photography I

January 19, 2006 - May 3, 2006
MW 1:30 - 4:20
Emily Rafalak
Yay photography! I really enjoyed this class... it's more an introduction to different photographic styles and darkroom usage than anything though. Take higher photo courses if you want to get really creative.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

80-180 The Nature of Language

January 17, 2006 - May 15, 2006
TH 1:30 - 2:50
Mandy Simons
Interesting material, but I'm not sure how much I like this class. The professor is kinda meh. She knows her stuff, but her teaching style and classroom management leave a lot to be desired.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A-
Final grade: A

18-100 Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering

January 18, 2006 - May 15, 2006
Lecture: TH 3:00 - 4:20
Recitation: M 12:30 - 1:20
Lab: W 6:30 - 9:20
Thomas Sullivan / Sarosh Talukdar / Jenna Fu / Arti Thumar
Was interesting enough. Robot construction is rather fun. The class itself is pretty well taught. Even though I'm not an engineer (by any means), I did enjoy this class.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

99-305 The Year is 1905: e=mc^2

January 18, 2006 - January 18, 2006
W 6:30-8:30
Gregg Franklin and Indira Nair
The course material is interesting enough, and the professors are extremely knowledgable. However, the course itself wasn't interesting to be, probably due to the way it was structured. Dropped it.
