My completed classes

Info, thoughts, and other fun stuff about classes I'm done with. Yay.

15-437: Web Application Development

January 16, 2007 - May 12, 2007
Class: TR 3:00-4:20
Jeff Eppinger
Interesting, if easy, course. The open final project is awesome though. The professor is good.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A+
Final grade: A

15-441: Computer Networks

January 16, 2007 - May 12, 2007
Lecture: TR 1:30-2:50
Recitation: W 3:30-4:20
Greg Kesden / Vinay Chaudhary
Kesden is a good lecturer, and is very animated. Excellent class, and easy too (if you just want your systems requirement out of the way).
Target grade: B
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

62-265: Portrait Photography

January 15, 2007 - May 7, 2007
Class: MW 8:30-11:20
Mark Perrott
This class was a huge disappointment. It's great being back in the darkroom developing film and making traditional silver gelatin prints, but I just can't stand this class, despite it being on my favorite subject... not sure what it was. Don't take this.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: B-
Final grade: A

21-484: Graph Theory

January 15, 2007 - May 7, 2007
Class: MWF 11:30-12:20
John Mackey
It's a Mackey class, enough said. Best math course I've taken, but also hard as hell. Huzzah!
Target grade: B
Midsemester grade: B
Final grade: A

62-360: Photography and Photographers Since WWII

January 22, 2007 - April 30, 2007
Class: M 6:30-9:20
Linda Benedict-Jones
Surprisingly good for a photo history course. Well taught and in-depth. But meh, it's photo history, what else is there to say?
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: B+
Final grade: A

15-451: Algorithm Design and Analysis

August 29, 2006 - December 15, 2006
Lecture: TR 12:00-1:20
Recitation: W 1:30-2:20
Avrim Blum / Manuel Blum / Srinath Sridhar
This class is kinda awesome. The Blums may not always be the best lecturers, but they really know their stuff, and the class is really well run. Very enjoyable, for a required course.
Target grade: B
Midsemester grade: B
Final grade: A

15-462: Computer Graphics

August 29, 2006 - December 12, 2006
TR 10:30-11:50
James Kuffner
The. Worst. Class. Ever. This class caused me more stress this semester than all my courses last semester combined. Spending over 24 hours coding a single project because you don't understand what the hell is going on because they don't really ever bother to explain the practice, only the theory, is frustrating as hell. The TAs aren't particularly helpful either (even if they do know their stuff really well). Do NOT take this with Kuffner if at all possible.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

21-355: Principles of Real Analysis I

August 28, 2006 - December 14, 2006
MWF 2:30-3:20
David Owen
Owen is an amazing professor (and very fair). I find this class terribly difficult, but then again proof-based math has always been my weak point. Excellent course though.
Target grade: B
Midsemester grade: B
Final grade: B

21-369: Numerical Methods

August 28, 2006 - December 15, 2006
MWF 2:30-3:20
Maria Emelianenko
Not too fond of the class itself, but the professor is excellent.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

62-265: Alternative Photo Processes

August 28, 2006 - December 6, 2006
MW 8:30-11:20
Mark Perrott
The best photo class I've ever taken. Mark is laid back (maybe a bit too laid back at times), but gives his students incredible creative freedom in creating photographic works of art. At the same time, he does a good job teaching, and does an incredible amount of work outside of class to make things perfect for his students.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A

62-384: Color Photography and Digital Output

August 28, 2006 - December 13, 2006
TR 1:30-4:20
Dylan Vitone
Excellent course. More focused on subject and personal voice than other classes I've taken, which isn't bad, just different. Dylan custom-taylors the course to every student while managing to keep everyone on the same page. Excellent, excellent photo course.
Target grade: A
Midsemester grade: A
Final grade: A
